DIY: INFINITY BOOKSHELF/NIGHTSTAND

We recently moved our bed and in doing so we had to get creative with the nightstand situation. Once the bed was moved, there was no longer any room for our bedside tables so I decided to try out something I had been wanting to try for some time now...infinity bookshelves. However, instead of just being a bookshelf, I wanted it to be sturdy enough to hold say a glass of water, iPhone etc. I thrifted these old reader's digest books and by thrifted I mean pulled them out of the trash behind a bookstore! They have beautiful brocade jackets and instantly knew how I would repurpose them.
Supplies for one shelf:
  • Several Pretty Books
  • 2 (4-6 inch) Corner Braces (L-shape)
  • 6 Screws

h/s/k&T: TOES: NISOLO SHOES

Nashville is home to Nisolo Shoes; a budding new company with a bright future selling high quality, men's and women's leather shoes and accessories. Through happenstance, I met a few of the people behind this operation and was given the opportunity to check out the Nisolo house. Before we get to it though...I would like to say that Nisolo is a prime example of what I believe in and preach so often...social responsibility. I considered writing my own synopsis of their story but realized that it is just too good and I should leave it up to the people themselves. Read Nisolo's story! Nisolo is in transition to their new storefront and I am absolutely sure it is going to be fantastic! If you are in Nashville I highly suggest checking this co out. It will surely make Nashville proud. If you don't live here...check them out online below!

WARDROBE WEDNESDAY: ELISHA ASHLEY GORE

One thing Nashville surely doesn't lack is a healthy supply of beautiful, non- Nashville women. Elisha being one of them! Elisha and I met through my husband, Robert and her beau Rob a number of weeks ago at a show. Upon learning we both loved cooking, we decided we would definitely have to cook up a storm together! As I mentioned earlier, this lovely lady is not from here. In fact, she hails from our neighbor up North, Canada. To be specific, the beaches of Toronto. She isn't phased by these cold Tennessee winds and her Canadian blood may have something to do with it! Elisha has been known to swim in icy waters and her ongoing studies in marine biology are a testament to her love of the sea....beauty and brains!

TASTE: TOFU POTATO BREAKFAST TACOS

I seriously believe vegans get a bad wrap. Although I myself am not a full fledged vegan (I can't kick delicious cheeses), I choose not to consume or cook with eggs and milk. This quick and easy dish could fool even the most adamant anti vegan! It also happens to be delish.
Ingredients:
  • 8 Corn Tortillas
  • 1 Block Extra Firm Tofu, pressed to remove excess water
  • 1 Large Russet Potato, chopped
  • 1/2 White Onion, chopped
  • 2 Cloves Garlic, roughly chopped
  • Olive Oil
  • 1 TSP Turmeric
  • Salt & Pepper to taste

WARDROBE WEDNESDAY: EASY BREEZY

Every third War+W, I am going to do the post! It will allow me to get more creative with my wardrobe especially since I am going to start participating in the Coast To Coast Challenge. I totally would have never come up with this outfit if it weren't for their nautical theme...and a quite a bit of help from Lily. After yesterday, I wish I could just make her be my personal stylist/photographer! We decided to go the unconventional nautical route using ocean hues, coral and wave style hair instead of the classic striped nautical look. This outfit made me want to go sailing and spend my days drinking pina coladas at the yacht club...I am totally going to do this one day...in this outfit.

OUT/ABOUT: LAUNDRY BRUNCH

Since moving from Texas, we have not had a dryer and it is becoming increasingly annoying. I am able to wash the clothes at home but I must take them elsewhere to dry. To make things a little more fun, I decided to just take our laundry over the Lily's house and make a fun thing out of it! Thus, our laundry brunch was born. It was perfect timing with Elisha leaving to Austin for SXSW and Robert arriving home soon. Kind of like our last girl's day for a bit even though Elisha was able to only stop by for a moment and her beau joining her. I made a delicious tofu and potato scramble for breakfast tacos and Lily provided grapefruit mimosas that turned in to gin and grapefruit spritzers...Laundry with friends and drinks is always more fun!

DIY: PALLET SHOE RACK

I have been introducing my bedroom redesign piece by piece and it is almost complete! The over the door shoe hanger that wouldn't even fit half of my shoes got the axe and I brought in several pallets in its stead. I found several different renditions of this idea and came up with the below on my own. It seemed the most efficient and more in line with what I was wanting.
Supplies:
  • Wood Pallet
  • 2 Shelf Brackets (with a capacity 100+ lbs)
  • 6 Heavy Duty Screws
  • Drill or Screwdriver
  • Stud Finder*
  • Measuring Tape
  • Spray Paint (color of your choice)

H/S/K&T: KATY HAMOR CARTLAND

Katy and I go way back to our restaurant days. We both married and moved out of our beloved Houston and now find common ground in the love for blogging. Katy's H/S/K&T favs reveal much about this 'bunny'. She traded in her long locks for a playful for a playful pixie and this coupled with her classic style explains her picks for H/S/K&T. Check out Katy's lifestyle blog, the CLEVER BUNNY, for more about her, her home and her handsome husband.

WARDROBE WEDNESDAY: TAYLOR SIMPSON BRASHEARS

Meet the beautiful Miss Taylor Brashears, an up and coming young firecracker of a Nashville musician. Robert and I met Taylor over at our neighborhood bar, Santa's Pub. She immediately stood out among the slew of karaoke performers with her powerful and passionate voice. I am pretty sure that is how we ended up befriending her...Robert wanted to sing with her! See why...What It Feels Like To Lose or Louise. She also does a pretty sweet version of Two More Bottles of Wine! Taylor has been in the studio recording a new album...to stay tuned like her on FB

TASTE: LEMON PEPPER KALE

Without further adieu...my kale recipe. This is hands down the most popular side item served in our home. It is also on of the easiest so I don't mind having to make it every other night, for parties or just as a snack. The trick is to cook the kale just enough so the outer pieces become dehydrated while the inside stays nice and juicy. It is the perfect mix of crunchy and chewy.
Ingredients:
  • 1 Bunch Kale
  • 1 TBSP Lemon Pepper, Halved (one whole fresh lemon can be substituted here, just add extra pepper)
  • Salt to taste
  • Olive Oil Cooking Spray

LISTEN: TO MY LOVE

Robert has been heading to the UK a couple times a year now. Every time he leaves to go overseas it gets a little bit harder. That is why I absolutely love it when things like this are released. It gives me some strange sense of being with him...while I am quite obviously not. These were taken at a concert Robert performed while he was across the pond this last time. Long hair intact and all. Check out the rest of the show here.

H/S/K&T: KELLY AMBER GARCIA

A couple of weeks ago, I attended a bachelorette party here in Nashville. Little did I know I would meet a new friend who would not only share common interests, but also be from the same city (Houston) and have a ton a mutual friends! This is how Kelly Garcia, of Mucho Mucho Bueno Bueno, and I became friends. We found common ground in our fearfulness of that evenings very male entertainment...we also enjoyed a stroll around Nashville's monthly flea market and the fairgrounds the next day. She has been sweet enough to give me tips and tricks that have proved most useful in my blogging venture! These are her pick for H/S/K&T!

WARDROBE WEDNESDAY: LILY McCALL COSTNER

Lily is fast becoming one of my good friends here in Nashville. Like me, this is not her homeland. She is a born Californian but spent the past several years living in Providence, RI. Like others, Lily moved here to pursue a career in songwriting. We enjoy spending time making dinner together, dancing at Motown Mondays and frequenting the local gay bar, Purple Heys. Check out 'Oh, Malley-Mae'; a track she sings with The Modern West. Like Lily on FB.

DIY: TREE BRANCH CLOTHING RACK

This past week, in preparation of Robert coming home soon, I have been completely redesigning our bedroom. We both agree that it never really felt right...so I am making it right! For starters, we don't have a real defined closet space. I had been searching and searching for ideas and came across this little tutorial. It was brilliant! Not only did I already have white spray paint; I also had several sturdy branches around the yard! I chose to hang the branch above the open stairwell which leads to our bedroom. My coats and dresses were all hung in ascending length from the top of the stairs so they hang a few inches above your head as you descend the stairs. I feel it was a great start to my redesign!

LIVE: GILL LANDRY

One of the first, and most interesting, people I met upon arriving here in Nashville was this here man, Gill Landry. Gill is a multi instrumentalist and vocalist who performs as a solo artist, as well with Old Crow Medicine Show. I had never been to his Belmont home when I asked him if I may have the privilege of snapping a few shots but I had always had a feeling it would be amazing...luckily, it was! Upon entering the foyer I was immediately taken back to the last Houston home I lived in alone. This is the one that is included on Robert's Cemetery Song. Gill greeted us and the first thing I was drawn to was the working Victrola Credenza. He cranked it a few times and away it went churning out beautiful old timey tunes. It was time to begin.

TASTE: VEGETARIAN SHEPHERDS PIE

Here in Nashville there exists a little bar/venue called The Family Wash. Every Tuesday they offer a $10 Pint and Pie night. The pie part of that equation is absolutely delicious! I have made my own renditions of veggie shepherds pie before but do something I had never thought to do before...cheddar cheese crust. Now granted, this isn't anything new for some people but it was for me. They also serve it in its own little foil tin. This made it easy for me to order to go for later...I decided to keep this recipe ultra simple by using the instant potatoes and omg it's great!
Ingredients

  • 2 Foil Tins
  • 1 (12oz) PKG Veggie Ground Beef Crumbles
  • 1 (12oz) PKG Frozen Veggie Medley (carrots, peas, corn)
  • 1 Cup Veg Brown Gravy (this may be from a package or homemade)
  • 1 (oz) PKG Instant Mashed Potatoes (i chose the idahoan butter and herb potatoes)
  • 8oz Block Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
The following ingredients are optional:
  • 8 Cloves Garlic
  • 1 TSP Olive Oil
  • 1 TSP Onion Powder
  • 1 TSP Garlic Powder
